OPEN WIDE Cleaner shrimp and moray eels share a mutually beneficial relationship. The shrimp picks algae and insects off the skin of the eel, enjoying a free meal while keeping the moray eel healthy.

THROUGH THE SNOW A herd of 350 reindeer travels to new pastures in Sweden. They're led north by a team of Sami reindeer herders who use rivers and lakes to navigate the route.

STOP AND SHOP  Hong Kong's Fa Yuen Street (or Garden Street) is a bustling shopping area for locals and tourists alike. While the pedestrian-only street is home to bargain clothing and shoe stores, there is also an area dedicated to buying and selling fresh produce.

THE BODYGUARD  In the waters off of the Philippines, a small fish takes shelter in the tentacles of a jellyfish. "However, the small fish you see in this image isn't immune to the stings either," says Your Shot photographer Henley Spiers. "And so whilst using the jelly for protection, it must be constantly alert and make sure it swims in just the right position!"

SUNRISE AT SHIPROCK  Early morning fog sweeps over northwestern New Mexico, where Shiprock stands 1,583 feet tall. The formation holds special significance to the Navajo people, who govern the land surrounding it.

ABOVE MECCA The city of Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, is the holiest site in the religion of Islam. Non-Muslims are prohibited from entering the city, and each year, 15 million pilgrims make the trip to worship. The tower is the Makkah Royal Clock Tower, part of Abraj Al-Bait, a complex of skycraper hotels for worshippers to stay in. The clock tower is one of the tallest buildings in the world, and it sports the largest clock face—measuring 141 feet across.

MORNING ROOFTOPS Day begins in Varanasi, the holiest city in India for Hindus. Located on the banks of the holy river Ganges, millions of pilgrims visit each year to bathe in the sacred waters. "Being the oldest continuously inhabited city in India, Varanasi is chaotic and colorful, intense and frenetic," says Your Shot photographer Yan Li. "Although it is the holiest place for Hindus, the daily life of locals has no difference compared to ours."

HOT AND COLD  Out of the Kīlauea Volcano on the island of Hawai'i, a fountain of lava streams into the ocean. When the hot lava hits the cool waters, an explosive reaction sends rocks and debris flying.

BLOWN OVER  Your Shot photographer David Jakob and his friends had big plans for their overnight fishing trip in Norway. After taking snow scooters to their destination, they were taken aback by what they found. "This cabin was supposed to be our shelter for the night," Jakob says, "but over time, erosion and heavy winds tipped it over."

MESSY EATING  In the Rift Valley of Kenya, a coalition of cheetahs feasts upon their prey. While most big cats are nocturnal, cheetahs avoid the competition by hunting during the day.

DOWN BELOW Green space nestles between enormous apartment complexes in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is one of the most crowded places on earth, with more than 7 million people living in 427 square miles.

DAILY CATCH  Your Shot photographer Cynthia H. had perfect timing while observing the mating ritual of black skimmers in the Gulf of Mexico. She remembers, "I watched as this female accepted her suitor's trophy, ensuring his bloodline will continue to be passed on. This poor minnow is only thinking he might still have a chance to get away."

THE COYOTE'S HOWL  A coyote stops to howl near the Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park. Your Shot photographer Glenn M. writes, "Another pair of intrepid photographers had gone out to look for this coyote based on its howls, and the coyote ended up coming to us."

WINDY WORK  On a windy day, a fisherman works his nets in Ningde, Fujian, China. Fishing is a huge part of the local economy, exporting everything from eels to oysters.

CATCH OF THE DAY  The annual salmon migration is practically an all-you-can-eat buffet for bears in Alaska. The journey upstream sometimes covers hundreds of miles, and the fish must leap out of the water to get over waterfalls. When the bear is at the right place at the right time, dinner is served.

LIONS IN LINES  Your Shot photographer Torie Hilley didn't think she'd be able to see anything interesting through the tall grass while on a safari in Zambia. "Then this pride of lions came walking toward us," she says, "taking advantage of the road to travel on. They, too, seemed they were tired of the tall grass swatting at their faces!"

WATCHFIRE   A Memorial Day Watchfire burns in Syracuse, New York. Your Shot photographer Stefani Reynolds explains the practice: "After a battle, there was an age-old tradition of building a large fire, in the hopes that it would guide lost soldiers back to where they needed to be. Today, the Memorial Day Watchfire honors that tradition, and those who served, by respectfully retiring American flags that can no longer be used."
