回坊的主要街道以青石铺路,绿树成荫,路两旁一色仿明清建筑,餐饮器物均由回民经营,具有浓郁清真特色。这一区域有唐代含光门、明代西城门楼群、众多保存完好的清真寺和都城隍庙、西五台等众多文化遗迹。街区内众多街道具有浓郁的伊斯兰风格,清真饮食城、民族购物中心和清真寺、回民生活区“相映成趣”。

麦芽糖类并不是西安的传统礼品,不过这些年在回民街发展迅猛,整个回民街区域,大大小小的麦芽糖品店加起来至少有几十家,因为竞争激烈,价格颇为公道,顾客盈门。

清晨的回民街上人流摩肩接踵, 穿行回民街,体验的是极致的都市繁华。街头磨刀的老汉,店铺里打糖的壮汉、街边切肉的少年、卖红枣糖水的大娘,以及干果店的回族美女等等人群就如一首生活交响乐。

过年了,西安回民街买腊牛羊肉的店前都会出现排长队的景象,一锅锅新鲜出炉的腊牛羊肉散发着诱人的香味,顾客们抢购起来毫不手软,也都甘愿为了买到肉而在寒冷的冬天排几个小时的队。

西安的桂花糕据说已经有三百多年的历史。在明朝末年,陕西新都县县城有个叫刘吉祥的小贩,从状元杨升庵桂子飘香的书斋中得到启示,将新鲜桂花收集起来,挤去里面的苦水,用蜜糖浸渍,并与蒸熟米粉、糯米粉、熟油、提糖拌合,装盒成型出售,取名桂花糕。后代人经多方改良,口感更胜当年。现在的桂花糕以精制白糖、饴糖、面粉、糯米粉、菜油、蜜桂花等为制作原料。按适当比例配好,经过蒸、炒、磨、拌、擀、匣、刀切等工序精制。
